WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON

Advisory

Heavy snow is possible. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet possible in the Cascades and 6 to 10 inches in Northern Klamath County and northwestern Lake counties are possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.

Location
South Central Oregon Cascades, and Southern Oregon Cascades, northern Klamath Basin and Northern and Eastern Klamath County and Western Lake County. This includes all of the passes over the Cascades, Highway 97 north of Chiloquin, and the cities of Chemult and Crescent.

When
From Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.

Additional Details
Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Strong winds combining heavy snow at times could cause tree damage and possible downed power lines.

A cold, wet and active weather pattern will affect the area through the whole forecast period. Snow levels will hover around 3000 feet through tonight, lowering to around 2000 feet over the weekend, and then lowering even more during the first portion of next week. Multiple systems will move through the area, bringing significant snow accumulations to the mountains. After the weekend, guidance indicates that snow levels will lower to valley floors late Monday into Tuesday. At this point in the forecast, it’s much too early to forecast detailed amounts for the valleys, but it is a good time to get prepared for wintry weather. If you have travel plans over the next several days, be sure to stay tuned to the forecast for updates and check road conditions before venturing out. Allow extra time to arrive at your destination and be prepared to alter your travel plans if necessary. (National Weather Service)
