SCOFMP Resources Knock Down Two Fires

In the last 24 hours, resources managed by the South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership (SCOFMP) have worked hard stopping two fires. The McCoy Fire located 8 miles southeast of Bonanza, Oregon and the Muddy Creek Fire located 10 miles west of Lakeview, Oregon. 

McCoy Fire

Crews from ODF, BLM and 2 helicopters worked quickly to stop the spread of a 11.9 acre fire 8 miles SE of Bonanza, Oregon. Crews will continue to improve the fire lines and conduct mom up operations. 

The McCoy fire was detected by Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS). VIIRS is an active fire mapping program that can provide a near real-time geospatial overview of the current wildland fire situation, and can be used by fire managers to make assessments.

The heat signature from the McCoy fire was detected by a dispatcher at the Lakeview Interagency Fire Center and an ODF Duty Officer, which prompted the initial attack response.

Muddy Creek Fire

Located 10 miles west of Lakeview, Oregon the 2.6 acres Muddy Creek Fire burns on private lands. Crews from ODF, BLM, USFS, USF&W and rural firefighters responded quickly keeping the acreage burned to a minimum. Crews have dug a containment line around the fire and work to strenthen the line as well as conduct mom up operations inside the burn.

  • Containment: 100%
  • Location: 10 Miles West of Lakeview, Oregon
  • Resources: Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, US Fish & Wildlife, Rural Firefighters, 2 SEAT Aircraft, and a Type 2 Helicopter.
