Lakeview, Ore. – Crews were able to stop the spread of the Buffalo Fire at 583 acres southeast of Wagontire  and are now working to contain it.

The fire was confirmed at 9:43 this morning approximately 38 miles Southeast of Wagontire, OR. The fire is burning on BLM protected lands, and within the French Glen Rural Fire Protection Area.

Initial attack resources were immediately dispatched: Air Attack, Five Single Engine Air Tankers, Two Helicopters, Five Engines, and Three Water Tenders. Visibility in the area is a factor and may limit the continued use of aerial resources.

Crews will continue to work on the line, and interior pockets of the fire throughout the day, and evening.

Staffing the fire are units from the BLM, US Fish &Wildlife Service, Warner Valley RFPA, and French Glen RFPA.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Every fire can appear different visually depending on the forest type, fuel load and how long fire has been absent from the area. This includes wildfires and prescribed fires.
