Best bets for weekend fishing

Just a few of the highlights from this week’s Recreation Report:

  • Spring Chinook fishing has been picking up in the Trask River and Tillamook Bay.
  • Columbia River smallmouth bass are moving into the shallows as the water warms and the bite has been especially good from Boardman to the OR/WA Stateline.
  • Trout fishing at Diamond Lake has been off the charts with most anglers taking home limits.
  • Shad are starting to arrive in the mainstem Umpqua and fishing should be good.
  • When river conditions permit, hit the Grande Ronde and Imnaha rivers for some good trout fishing
  • Walleye fishing has been excellent in The Dalles and John Day pools of the Columbia River.
