Program Features Women in Local History

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Five women who have played significant roles in Klamath Basin history will be featured in a program Sunday, March 25, at the Baldwin Hotel Museum.

The program will be presented at 10 a.m., and repeated at 1 p.m. Admission to the hour-long is free. Refreshments will be served.

Pat McMillan, former director of the Klamath County tourism and museum programs, will be the only living woman to be featured in the program. McMillan now works as curator at the Favell Museum.

Other featured women who lived in the area include F. Jean Elzner, who served as county commissioner and county treasurer; Buena Cobb Stone, a popular school teacher; Helen Helfrich, who with her husband documented much of the area’s history; and Sophia Henley, a rancher for whom Henley School was named.

Sunday’s event is the fourth annual program on women in local history, offered in recognition of March being women’s history month.
