OSP Investigating a pair of crashes in Chiloquin

CHILOQUIN, Ore. - The Oregon State Police are investigating a pair of motor vehicle crashes that occurred yesterday, September 23, 2019, believed to be by the same driver. The first impact was into the Kla-Mo-Ya Casino Sleep Inn and a second nearby along Highway 97 that resulted in the vehicle hitting trees.

According to a report from OSP, the driver of a silver Dodge truck ran into the exterior wall of the Sleep Inn before traveling north on US97. Scanner traffic at the time of the first incident indicated the vehicle may have entered into one of the ground level rooms.

After leaving the Kla-Mo-Ya property, the driver headed north on US97 when for unknown reasons, near milepost 250 the vehicle crossed the southbound lanes of travel leaving the roadway and colliding with several trees.

The driver was reported to have not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the US97 crash. OSP also believes that the driver may have suffered from a medical issue prior to, or during, the crashes.

OSP, Chiloquin Fire and Rescue and several bystanders helped extricate the driver from the vehicle. The driver was then transported via ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The driver was later identified as Barbara Ann F. Gothrick, 63, from Prescott, Ariz.
