Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Ross Ragland Theater, in partnership with Klamath Community College, is offering a four credit Theater Appreciation course that gives high school students sixteen and up college credit while learning an introduction to theater.  This is an online course with a weekly three-hour lab conducted by instructor Jeff S. Press.

General topics of discussion in the Theatre Appreciation course will include comedy, drama, and classics with in depth analysis on scripts by Neil Simon, Arthur Miller, and Shakespeare's sonnets.  Working with scripts students will assess their ability to read and analyze play scripts and learn how to conceptualize them to live theatre. The course conjointly applies experimental and theoretical learning of performing arts to prepare interested students to perform on stage, as well as nurture their personal skills with an academically accredited program. Students will explore the variety of different jobs in theatre, from actors and directors to designers and stage managers.

Theater Appreciation will culminate in a performance by the students.  Performance pieces will be determined based on the student’s abilities and interests.  Each student will perform at least one monologue and one scene.  Throughout this lab students will also explore different staging techniques and basic design aspects. The performance is open to the public and held in the Ross Ragland Cultural Center Studio 1.

The online course runs from January 8th, 2018 through March 23, 2018 with labs on Saturdays from 9am-12pm at the Ross Ragland Theater. Cost for the course is $25 per credit. Deadline to sign up is Monday January 8, 2018.

With a grant from the Collins Foundation, Ross Ragland Theater is offering scholarships for four students attending a Klamath County school.
