Youth Rising open house & fall fundraiser

The community is invited to attend the Youth Rising Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Youth Rising Drop-In Center at 729 Main Street, across from Old Town Pizza. The Youth Rising team will provide light refreshments, games, raffle prizes and fun youth activities highlighting our clubs and services. Youth Rising is also proud to announce a fundraising event on November 14, 2019, in support of Youth Rising services for local young people.

All students ages 11-18 interested in finding out more about the fun after-school activities available at the Drop-In Center are invited to attend the Youth Rising Open House on Wednesday, October 23. This event will also introduce parents of youth that attend the Drop-In, and community members to the new Drop-In Center Manager, Maggie McGonigle, and Hallie Winchell, Youth Rising Development Coordinator.

“We had such a great turnout during our first open house last year after we moved to the new Drop-In Center location. We are hopeful that people will show up to see our progress and have some fun engaging with youth that access our services. This will also be a great opportunity to meet our passionate and our amazing staff members recently added to the team,” said Tasha Meyer, Youth Rising Executive Director.

Youth Rising is also recruiting volunteers to partner with youth, teach music, dance, art, crafts, hobbies, and life-skills classes, encourage youth advocacy activities, or provide free tutoring. Any young adults, college students, or community members interested in volunteering for Youth Rising are encouraged to attend the Open House or come by the Drop-In Center from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

In addition, Youth Rising is proud to announce an upcoming fundraiser on Thursday, November 14, 2019 in partnership with the Linkville Playhouse. A special fundraising performance of “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” will be held on Thursday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Linkville Playhouse, at 201 Main Street. Youth Rising volunteers and staff will host a special intermission event with free food and beverages, with a raffle prize drawing for all ticket holders.

Admission will be $15 per person with 100% of the sales go to support Youth Rising services and youth activities. Tickets will be available online at www.youthrising.com or may be purchased at the Drop-In Center from 3 to 6 p.m. from Monday to Friday, beginning on October 28. Any remaining tickets will be available at the Linkville Playhouse ticket window from 5 to 7 p.m. on November 14.

Youth Rising is now accepting funding or in-kind donations, and recruiting volunteers to work directly with youth at the Drop-In Center a few hours per week, or month – and to assist with the fundraiser on November 14, and two additional events planned for December 2019.

Such community volunteers, professionals and college students or other young adults can make a significant difference in the lives of young people, such as encouraging youth advocacy in climate change, environmental issues, suicide prevention, or other critical topics. Youth Rising is also seeking community members or working professionals to teach life-skills classes, such as budgeting, cooking, auto repair, saving money, job seeking, or other activities to help youth become independent adults.
