Woodstove advisory season concludes

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Between October 15 and March 15 Klamath County Public Health (KCPH) provides daily woodstove advisories for the Klamath Falls-area air quality zone.

These advisories are a way to help meet the requirements established by the Department of Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency for clean air. For many years, the Klamath Falls-area was out of compliance with these rules.

While the advisory season is over, the advisory will still be posted online at airquality.klamathcounty.org and on the air quality Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/KlamathBasinAirQuality. This is because the advisory is used as a criterion for the upcoming Spring open burn window in April.

Due to the mild winter, KCPH officials are asking community members to be extremely careful during the open burn. Only yard waste, such as leaves and branches are allowed to be burned. An alternative to burning these items is to compost them.

Another alternative is to either take the waste to the dump or prepare trash bags of yard debris for regular garbage pick up.
