Winter Weather Advisory for Cascades, Wind Advisory for Basin

National Weather Service, Medford Oregon has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for areas of the Cascade Mountains through 10:00PM Today, December 20, 2018. NWS has also issued a High Wind Advisory for the Klamath Basin for the same period.

Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination. Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads with limited visibilities.

Winter Weather Advisory

Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches, with localized amounts up to 11 inches, are expected. A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties.

LOCATION
South Central Oregon Cascades, Siskiyou Mountains and southern Oregon Cascades, including Diamond Lake, Crater Lake, Lake of the Woods, and Mt. Ashland. This includes Highways 138, 140, 230, and 62.

WHEN
From 1 PM this afternoon to 10 PM PST this evening. The heaviest snow is expected between 4 PM and 10 PM Thursday.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the evening commute. Tree branches could fall. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times. A period of snow is possible at Siskiyou Summit on Interstate 5 Thursday evening.


Rain and snow Thursday afternoon is expected to change over to all snow Thursday evening down to elevations around 4,000 feet by 10 PM PST. The heaviest snowfall and accumulations are most likely to occur between 4 PM and 7 PM PST Thursday evening.4…

Rain and snow Thursday afternoon is expected to change over to all snow Thursday evening down to elevations around 4,000 feet by 10 PM PST. The heaviest snowfall and accumulations are most likely to occur between 4 PM and 7 PM PST Thursday evening.

4-12 inches of new snow is expected in the Cascades and Siskiyous above 5,000 foot elevations, with most locations in the advisory expected to receive 5-7 inches of new snow. Use extra caution if traveling and plan for extra time to reach destinations if traveling through the Winter Weather Advisory area.


High Wind Advisory

Southwest winds 30 to 40 with gusts to 55 mpg.

LOCATION
Modoc County, Klamath Basin, Northern and Eastern Klamath County, Western, Central and Eastern Lake County.

Paisley, Summer Lake, and the higher elevations of the Warners of southern Lake county. This includes portions of Highway 31 between Summer Lake and Valley Falls, Highway 140 between Lakeview and Adel, and Highway 395 between Alkali Lake and Valley Falls.

Advisory is in effect until 10:00PM today (12/20/18) the strongest winds expected this afternoon.
