Winter Storm Warning - Siskiyous & Cascades

10:00 PM to 4:00 AM Wednesday Night

Description:

  • WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Plan on dangerous travel conditions.Strong winds may cause tree branches could to fall. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are expected.
  • WHERE...Siskiyou Mountains and Southern Oregon Cascades above 5500 feet. This includes Mt. Ashland Ski Area.
  • WHEN...10 AM Wednesday to 10 PM Wednesday. The heaviest snowfall rates will occur between 10 AM and 4 PM Wednesday.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Significant reductions in visibility are expected. Snowfall rates may be briefly high, up to 2 inches per hour Wednesday afternoon.

  • Travel is strongly discouraged because of dangerous conditions.
  • If you must travel, keep tire chains, a flashlight, blankets, food, water, medications, and a fully charged phone with you.
  • The safest place during a winter storm is indoors.
  • A Winter Storm Warning means that severe winter weather is likely and poses a threat to life and property. Take protective action now.

Winter Weather Advisory - Siskiyou County

10:00 AM to 10:00 PM Wednesday


Description:

  • WHAT...Moderate to heavy snow expected. Travel will be dangerous over the higher terrain of Siskiyou County. Warning total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches, with localized amounts up to 18 inches. Advisory snow amounts of 3 to 6 inches.
  • WHERE...North Central and Southeast Siskiyou County to include Tennant in the advisory area. Warning level amounts are expected generally above 5500 feet.
  • WHEN...10 AM Wednesday to 10 PM Wednesday.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Significant reductions to visibility are expected. Snowfall rates could be briefly high, up to 2 inches per hour. Snow levels will rise from around 4000 feet Wednesday morning to 5500 feet late Wednesday afternoon.

High Wind Warning / Advisory - Klamath, Lake and Modoc Counties

10:00 AM Wednesday to 1:00 AM Thursday

Description:

Strong south winds are likely ahead of a strong frontal system that will move through area Wednesday. The strongest winds are expected over the Shasta Valley and over the higher terrain east of the Cascades. Gusty south winds are also expected over portions of the Rogue Valley and lower elevations east of the Cascades.The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a High Wind Warning...which is in effect from 10 AM Wednesday to 1 AM PST Thursday. A Wind Advisory has also been issued. This Wind Advisory is in effect from 10 AM Wednesday to 1 AM PST Thursday.The High Wind Watch is no longer in effect.

  • Winds...In the warning area southeast 40 to 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph. In the advisory area...30 to 40 mph with gusts to 50 mph.
  • Timing...Late morning through late evening.
  • Locations in the warning include...Summer Lake, Paisley, Valley Falls, Lakeview, Winter Rim and Cedar Pass.
  • Locations in the advisory include...Sprague River, Bly, Adel and Alturas.
  • Impacts...Travel will be difficult on area roadways including Highway 395 and Highway 31 between Paisley and Silver Lake.Unsecured objects may be blown around. Tree damage and power outages are possible.

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected with higher gusts possible. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage. Travel will be impacted, especially for high profile vehicles.
