Chiloquin, Ore. - Freighters made great progress on the Bray Mill Fire overnight on the Chiloquin Ranger District of the Fremont-Winema National Forest.

The fire is currently 405 acres and 25 percent contained. Firefighters report that there is no forward momentum to the fire. Full containment is anticipated by tonight.

Firefighters were able to use previous hazardous fuel reduction and forest restoration projects in the area to safely and effectively make progress containing the fire.

The Bray Mill Fire is currently under investigation. It was reported yesterday at approximately 3:00 PM and is located on National Forest System land approximately 4 miles northeast of Chiloquin.

With the snow melting and things drying out, every day brings increased risk of wildfire and brings the forest closer to fire season. Spring in the area also brings variable temperatures, increased winds and conditions that can help fire spread rapidly.

Forest visitors are asked to be careful with fire and anything that can throw a spark.

Campfires should never be left unattended and should be dead out before leaving. This means drowned with water, stirred and cold to the touch with no warm spots.
