Tech Baseball Splits with Corban on Day Two

KEIZER, Ore. – Day two of the NAIA West Conference double-header weekend, saw John Schulz and the Oregon Tech Men's Baseball team pick up a big win, 13-1, in game one over the Warriors of Corban University. Game two saw the Warriors come back in the sixth inning, driving in the needed runs to win, 8-4. 

Oregon Tech jumped all over the Warriors in the third inning of game one on Saturday, as it was Kai Fong who launched a grand slam over the right-field fence to give the Owls the early 4-0 lead. The visitors would add four more in the fourth and never look back en route to the 13-1 triumph.

For Oregon Tech in the victory, Fong finished 3-for-6 at the plate with five RBI, while Blake Wrotenbury went 3-for-6 with three RBI. On the mound, John Schulz went eight innings in the triumph, allowing just four hits and one unearned run.

Game two saw Corban bounce back immediately, as after surrendering a run in the top of the first, the Warriors scored three in the bottom half of the inning. 

Alex Poltz launched a moon shot over the right-field wall for Oregon Tech in the second to make it a one-run ballgame, the Warriors scored another run on an Ebert RBI single in the bottom half of the frame to make it 4-2.

The Owls pulled another run back in the fifth, but the Warriors reclaimed four runs in the sixth, putting the game out of reach. 

In the loss, Caleb Henry pitched seven innings, retiring five batters and giving up five hits. At the plate, Blake Wrotenberyand Alex Poltz had two hits and one RBI a piece, while Josh Kallstrom added one hit and one RBI.

Oregon Tech now sits with and overall record of 9-14 and 1-3 in the NAIA West, as they look to head to Caldwell, ID to take on the College of Idaho next weekend.
