Suspect Arrested for Recklessly Causing the Klamathon Fire

Yreka, Ca - CAL FIRE law enforcement officers, in conjunction with the Siskiyou County District Attorney’s Office, arrested an individual for causing the Klamathon Fire on July 5 th , 2018. John Colin Eagle Skoda, 32, was booked into the Siskiyou County Jail on August 23, 2018.

CAL FIRE investigators determined Skoda caused the fire by allegedly burning debris recklessly.

The Klamathon Fire burned 38,008 acres in and around the Community of Hornbrook.

The fire destroyed 35 homes, 48 structures and damaged an additional 12 structures. One Hornbook resident lost his life and three firefighters sustained injuries fighting this fire.

CAL FIRE law enforcement officers work diligently to investigate all fires and prosecute those suspected of starting fires. As fire danger remains high across California, wildfires will continue to pose a major threat to life, property and our state’s natural resources. CAL FIRE urges the public to be vigilant in their preparedness and aware of suspicious activity.
