Spectrum outage causing issues for businesses and customers alike [UPDATED]

If you use Charter/Spectrum for your internet and phone needs, It has been a tough day for your communications. Services have been out since approximately 8:20 AM, with no estimated time of when the service will return.

"An issue on a third-party carrier’s network is impacting service for Spectrum customers in Klamath Falls," said Bret Picciolo, Senior Director of Communications for Charter/Spectrum. "Our engineering team has engaged that carrier and is working with them to restore service as quickly as possible."

Questions to Picciolo regarding a backup carrier network have gone unanswered.

Ryan Niemi, CTO of FireServe Broadband Internet has informed KFN that a Century Link fiber trunk has been severed approximately 9 miles east of Ashland along Highway 66. Crews are working in the area to pinpoint the source of the outage and make appropriate repairs. Once found, repairs may take hours to of fiber splicing to fix the damage.

The severed fiber trunk has reportedly knocked out communications with several cellphone towers in the area as well.

Credit card processing has been an issue today for many basin businesses. The Subway at Oregon Tech has been telling customers that they cash only as they have no available way to process credit card transactions.

Customers of FireServe Broadband Internet and Cal-Ore Fiber Intenet are unaffected by this outage. As each has multiple fiber lines running in and out of the Basin.
