Results from the May 21, 2019, Special District Election are in.

Just under 20% of eligible voters turned in ballots for the May 2019 Special District election. According to the Klamath County Clerks Office, 9119 ballots were cast in Klamath County. Some of the races included key positions in education, fire protection, parks, water services, cemeteries, transit, and 9-1-1. Two funding measures, one for Klamath District 911 and another for Merrill Rural Protection were also on the ballot.

Both funding measures passed. 18-113, helps Klamath District 911 with a five-year tax renewal for dispatch services. 18-113 passed with 76.45% voting yes. 18-114, helps the Merrill Rural Protection District with a five-year general operation tax. 18-114 passed with 62.40% voting yes.

The KCC District 6 Director position had five candidates vying at large position. Only 6.46% separated all five candidates. After the dust settled, Helen Petersen pulled ahead with 21.96% of the vote, narrowly winning over Derek Kimbol by just 6 votes.
