The Oregon State Sheriff’s Association (OSSA), through the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), has awarded the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office grant money for traffic safety totaling $5,500. The grant money will be utilized to increase traffic enforcement with focused patrols for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) and Safety Belt violations during the below specified events.

DUII High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) Events

Grant amount, $2,000

  • Christmas 2017 / New Year’s 2018 (December 13, 2017 through January 1, 2018)
  • Super Bowl (February 4, 2018)
  • St. Patrick’s Day (March 17, 2018)
  • Memorial Day (May 26, 2018 through May 28, 2017)
  • Independence Day (July 4, 2017)
  • Klamath County Fair (August 2, 2018 through August 5, 2018)
  • Labor Day (August 17, 2018 through September 3, 2018)

Safety Belt Blitz Periods

Grant amount, $3,500

  • Blitz #1 - February 5, 2018 through February 18, 2018
    • Emphasis: Belts / Child Restraints, Texting and Speed 
  • Blitz #2 - May 14, 2017 through May 27, 2017
    • Emphasis: Night Time / Daytime Belts, Minors in Open Pickup Beds, Click It or Ticket Mobilization
  • Blitz #3 - August 20, 2018 through September 2, 2017
    • Emphasis: Child Seats / Fitting Station Referrals, Texting and Speed
