Second Half Comeback Falls Short as Owls Lose to No. 15 Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore.-  Oregon Tech (16-8, 9-5 CCC) out-scored No. 15 Warner Pacific University (16-6, 10-3) 45-40 in the second half erasing an 18 point deficit but eventually fell to the Nights 86-78 Friday night at Bart Valentine Court.
 
The Knights jumped-out to an 8-0 lead extended that lead to 18-points at 42-24 on a Collin Malcom dunk with 3:23 remaining in the first half.
 
Tech managed to cut the lead to 44-33 but a very questionable fall on OIT gave the Knights two free-throws with less than a second left in stanza, Malcom converted both free-throws as WPU took a 46-33 lead into the break.
 
Tech never gave up and eventually cut the Knights lead to just two-points 74-72 on a Bernards three-ball with 1:53 to play.
 
Morris Bethea hit back-to-back three-point plays that extended the WPU lead to six-points at 81-75 with just 48 seconds left to play.
 
The knights made six of seven free-throws down the stretch to ice the win 86-78.
 
Bernards led the Owls with a career high 21 points including 4 of 7 from long range with Tyler Hieb adding 20 points and senior Andrew Weber chipping 16 points in the loss.
 
Xavier Cannefax led five Knights who scored in double figures as he poured in a game high 24 points.
 
Oregon Tech will travel across town to play at Multnomah University Saturday night at 7:30 pm.
