Highlights from the week's Recreation Report

Fee pheasant hunts

The fee pheasant hunts on the Denman, E.E. Wilson, Fern Ridge and Sauvie Island wildlife areas kick off this month. This is your chance to bag a couple of pheasants in a part of the state where public-land bird hunting can be hard to find. Check of the wildlife area updates in the week’s report for more information.

Take a friend hunting, and win a prize

For veteran hunters who want to pass on their passion for the outdoors, this is the year to take a friend hunting—and enter to win a prize for your efforts. ODFW is hosting the 2018 Take a Friend Hunting Contest to encourage friends and family members to enjoy time together in the outdoors this year. See the rules, eligibility requirements, and the list of prizes.

Finally, time to enjoy some cool season trout fishing

Cooler temperatures and a bit of rain are enough to kick off the fall trout fishing season. This is the time of year when trout begin to feed more heavily in preparation for winter. Add in some great fall weather, beautiful autumn colors, and less-crowded conditions, and it’s no wonder this is a favorite time of year for many trout anglers. Check the zone reports for the best bets near you.

Coastal fall Chinook – just add water

Chinook are gathering in coastal bays and estuaries, and the first good rains of the season should get them headed upriver. Keep an eye on the forecast, and the Rec Report updates, and be ready to hit the water when conditions are right.
