Get ready for spring bear hunting

The season is just a few weeks away! Many hunters consider spring bear to be the first hunt of the year. To see how things are shaping up in areas throughout the state, check out the 2018 Spring Bear Forecast.

Best bets for fishing

  • Water conditions are almost perfect in the lower Rogue River and lots of winter steelhead are bring caught.
  • This week is your last chance for winter steelhead fishing on several rivers in the NW Zone -- the Necanicum, North Fork Nehalem, upper Nestucca, Salmonberry, Trask – North and South forks, and Wilson – North and South Forks all close April 1.
  • Bull trout fishing has been good on Lake Billy Chinook.
  • The Shevlin and Prineville Youth Fishing Ponds have been stocked and most kids are out of school for spring break. Are you seeing an opportunity here?
  • There will be some bonus, unscheduled trout stocking in Trojan Pond (4,000), St. Louis Pond #6 (3,000) and Progress Lake (2,000).

Be ALERT to fishing regulation changes

Fishing regulations can change during the season, especially during popular salmon seasons. To stay on top of the changes, click the yellow ALERT button at the top of the home and Fishing landing pages. You also can check for any regulation updates at the top of each zone of the Recreation Report. (Columbia River spring Chinook seasons are here.)

Report late season hunts

Hunters with tags valid for Jan. 1-March 31 have until April 15 to report on their tag. There are several ways to report, including online.
