REACH’s Status as essential critical infrastructure during COVID‐19 outbreak

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently designated the wood products industry an “essential critical infrastructure workforce” as part of the nation’s response to the Coronavirus (COVID‐19) pandemic.

The guidance lists “workers who support the manufacture and distribution of forest products,” along with healthcare providers, law enforcement and public safety, and utility and transportation workers. These workers are part of the “overall federal effort to ensure the security and resilience of the nation’s critical infrastructure” during the pandemic response.

On March 23, 2020, the State of Oregon issued an order directing all individuals living in the State to stay at home except for essential activities. Given the status of the wood products industry as essential critical infrastructure, REACH’s manufacturing facility will continue to operate as part of our efforts to sustain the flow of goods to the American people during the COVID‐19 outbreak.

REACH will maintain its ongoing focus on the health and safety of its employees, which is of utmost importance as they continue to work in service of their fellow citizens. Multiple changes, derived from guidance from the CDC, have been implemented to maximize employee safety during the pandemic. These changes include heightened monitoring of employee health, increased workspace sanitization, staggered use of common areas, worker‐distancing practices, and work‐from‐home policies for employees whose duties allow.
