PCT Hiker Rescued After Activating Distress Signal on Mt. Thielsen

Diamond Lake, Ore. - On Monday, June 17, 2019, at about 12:30 pm, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office was notified of a distress signal from a SPOT locator device. The location of the distress beacon was indicating an area of the Pacific Crest Trail on Mt.Thielsen.
Douglas County Search and Rescue was deployed to look for the subject from which the signal was coming from and assess what type of assistance was required.
The Oregon State Police and Diamond Lake Horse Corrals assisted the Sheriff’s Office with rescue efforts by providing riders on horseback.
The individual was located at approximately 5:30 pm.
The Colton Cosby, 23, of Roseburg, had been hiking the past three days and became lost in the deep snow still covering the Pacific Crest Trail.
Cosby was brought down to the trailhead where he was transported to Dry Creek and met by medical personnel from Glide Fire Department and Bay Cities Ambulance.
Cosby was transported to Mercy Medical Center for evaluation.
