Owls Split at Menlo

ATHERTON, Calif. – Kai Fong had a bases loaded double scoring 3-runs to lead Oregon Tech to a 7-2 win in game one over Menlo College Saturday afternoon. The Oaks then took game two, 6-3 as the two teams split the 4-game weekend series to kick-off the 2018 season at Cartan Field.
 
Game 1 Oregon Tech 7 Menlo 2 (9-innings) 
OIT took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Tristian Shae RBI single.
 
Menlo answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 1. The Oaks then took a 2-1 lead adding another run in the bottom of the 3rd.
 
Tech opened things up scoring 4-runs in the 4th on 4-hits highlighted by the Fong 3-run double to take a 5-2 lead.
 
The Owls added two insurance runs in the top of the 8th as Justin Jordan hit a two-run blast over the wall.
 
Tech's John Schulz pitched a solid 6 and 2/3 to grab the win spreading out 7-hits and 2-earned runs with 7-strikeouts to move to 1-0 on the season.
 
Tristan Shea and Matthew Del Fante had 2-hits each to lead the Owl attack.
 
 
Game 2 Menlo 6 Oregon Tech 3 (7-innings)
OIT took the early 1-0 lead scoring an unearned run in the first inning.
 
Menlo answered with a Justin Bruce home run to tie the game at 1.
 
Tech scored 2-runs in the top of the 2nd to take a 3-1 lead on back-to-back RBI singles by Ryan Riepma and Micah Joi.
 
It would be all Menlo the rest of way with the Oaks one run in the second inning, 2-runs in the third, and one-run in each the 4th and 5th innings to win 6-3.
 
Fong led the Owls with 2-hits in the loss.
 
Freshman Spencer Dahlke was pegged with the loss giving up 4-runs (all earned) and 6-hits.
 
Oregon Tech will travel back down to California next Saturday and Sunday playing two double-headers against William Jessup University in Rocklin.
