Owls Fly Past Red Hawks
/KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech's Lady Owls took down Simpson University 63-55 in their third game of the Lithia Classic on Friday night in the Danny Miles Court, bringing them to 5-2 on the season.
"It was a hard-fought battle tonight," said Head Coach Scott Meredith "I was exceptionally impressed with our defense. The 2 points we held Simpson to in the first quarter was our finest defensive effort of the season and that's a good sign. We took care of the ball and did a great job on the boards at both ends. This was a good test against an outstanding team. We are continuing to grow as a team and will have a significant challenge tomorrow night."
Tech started the game strong with a 10-2 run in the first quarter, with senior Megan Morris contributing six of those points. Morris went on to score 13 points, a game high for the Owls, and add eight rebounds.
Freshman Kristin Farrell earned 12 points, scoring four of the Owl's six three-pointers. Sophomore Abby Kreiser scored the other two, bringing in nine points, and senior Nohea Waiwaiole scored nine points and eight rebounds.
Though down 30-21 in the second quarter, the Red Hawks were definitely not out, scoring a 12-2 run at the end of the third quarter to bring them within two points of the Lady Owls 44-42.
The fourth quarter saw the score tied four times before the Owls scored a 9-0 run to end the game.
