KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the 2017-18 Under Armour 30-under-30 honorees, recognizing a group of up and coming young coaches in men's college basketball. Not only did Oregon Tech Head Coach Justin Parnell make the list of Honorees, he was chosen to give the acceptance speech on behalf of all the 30 winners at the NCAA Final Four Banquet.

Parnell will be entering his third year at the helm of the Hustlin' Owls basketball program after taking over for Legendary Head Coach Danny Miles who is a current inductee into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.

In his first two years at the helm of the Owls, Parnell has amassed a 46-21 record (.690%) and has taken his teams to the NAIA National Tournament both years.

Oregon Tech Athletic Director John Van Dyke stated, "We at Oregon Tech are thrilled but not surprised that Coach Parnell is a recipient of this reward.  Coach Parnell has had the challenge of replacing Hall of Fame Coach Danny Miles and has done so with class and quiet confidence.  He is comfortable in his own skin and consequently has provided outstanding leadership to the young men in his program."

Parnell, a Sutherlin, Oregon native, played two seasons at Oregon Tech (2008-10), averaging 17.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and five assists during that span. In his senior season, Parnell became Oregon Tech's seventh NAIA First-Team All-American, and earned NAIA Honorable Mention honors in his freshman season with the Owls. Parnell led Oregon Tech to two-straight CCC regular-season and tournament titles, a pair of Sweet 16 appearances at the NAIA Division II men's basketball championships, and never lost a game playing on Danny Miles Court (38-0). Parnell was naed Cascade Collegiate Conference Newcomer of the Year after the 2009 season, and CCC Player of the Year accolades at the conclusion of the 2010 season. He graduated from Oregon Tech in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies.

Parnell and his wife Joey, an Oregon Tech Echocardiography Technology graduate and former All-CCC Volleyball standout, have a son (Jase) and daughter (Rylie).

The 2018-19 season of Oregon Tech basketball will kick-off on Saturday, October 27 against NW Indian College at Danny Miles Court.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches
Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas.  Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game.  The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.  All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes.  The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education.  Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.com.
