Oregon Tech Shocks No. 6 Eastern Oregon 3-1

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Freshman Maddie Miller (#13 Pictured by Tanner Karp) led Oregon Tech past No. 6 ranked Eastern Oregon in an upset victory 3-1 on Friday afternoon at the OIT Soccer Field. The Owls advanced their conference record to 3-0-2 and dealing EOU their first CCC loss of the season.
"The women played a solid game and beat a team that is very highly regarded," said head coach Brandon Porter. "When we decide we want to compete and bring the best versions of ourselves, we are capable of some pretty good soccer. I thought Amy Morikawa and Aimee Bruner showed great defensive resolve, and Kyra Mull and Hailey Satyna were crucial to closing out the game. Now we need to prepare for a quality COI team."
The game started out tied as goalie Jenna Stiehr earned six saves for the Lady Owls (6-2-3, 3-0-2 CCC) in the first period, blocking the Mountaineer's (7-1-2, 4-1-1 CCC) offensive effort.
Things picked up early in the second, however, when sophomore Amanda Seward scored a goal in the first five minutes on her only shot in the game.
Miller then led the offense to build the lead, scoring two goals with assists from senior Haley Janky and freshman Kyra Cambra to bring the score to 3-0.
Nan Kiebert landed a goal for the Mountaineers with less than six minutes on the clock, but Tech didn't give them another shot.
Kiebert headed up offensive efforts for Eastern, sending out four shots, with three being on target. Mackinley Gregus and Josee Bassett added two shots each.
When the game ended, the Mountaineers had tallied 13 shots to the Owl's 11, with 8 on target as compared to just 3 from Tech.
Cambra and senior Aimee Bruner each contributed two shots for OIT.
The Lady Owls will continue in CCC play tomorrow at 2:30pm, taking on the College of Idaho at the OIT Soccer Field in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
