Oregon Tech Faculty deliver intent to strike to Administration; Faculty will lawfully strike if agreement is not reached

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Faculty organized through Oregon Tech - American Association of University Professors (OT-AAUP) have declared their intent to lawfully strike. Their announcement was submitted to the Employment Relations Board and the Oregon Tech administration today, April 8th; a potential strike would begin no earlier than Monday, April 26.

The parties have been bargaining for 16 months and in mediation for almost six, yet still remain far apart on key aspects of compensation, benefits, and working conditions.

If OT-AAUP is forced to strike, it will be the first time any public university faculty has gone on strike in Oregon history.

“We could have gone on strike as early as April 19th, but we hope with this additional week the administration will offer a proposal that respects the work of faculty so that a strike can be averted,” said Dr. Mark Clark, former President of Oregon Tech AAUP.

Negotiations will continue until an agreement is reached. OT-AAUP remains committed to securing a fair contract and fighting for fair wages, secure benefits, and reasonable, clearly-defined workloads for Oregon Tech faculty.
