Local art featured in Modoc Gallery

A drawing of a bighorn sheep by Jim Weaver is among the works that will be on display at the Klamath County Museum beginning Saturday.

A new exhibit featuring works by two local artists opens Saturday, April 27, in the Klamath County Museum’s Modoc Gallery. The exhibit features paintings by Donna Woolery of Dairy and drawings by Jim Weaver of Klamath Falls.

An opening reception for the exhibition runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the museum at 1451 Main St. The exhibit will run through June.

Weaver, who has been drawing since he was a child, specializes in realism using graphite and colored pencils. He favors wildlife as a subject.

“I’ve always enjoyed the unique values of using the black and white medium,” Weaver said. “I feel it holds a timeless and classic feel.

Woolery began drawing with pencil before exploring other mediums such as watercolor and pastels. In recent years she has been studying oils with Susan Liskey.

She was a partner in the former Gallery 803, and a part owner of the Clearwater Gallery in Klamath Falls.

The Modoc Gallery is open during regular museum hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission to the gallery is free.
