Klamath Heritage: The History of Garbage

The Klamath County Museum’s latest video provides background and details on the Klamath County Museum's Photo of the Week for April 7, 2019.

Watch our video to find answers to these trashy questions:

  • How deep is the pile of garbage now that the landfill is nearly 85 years old?

  • How much methane is generated by the decomposing refuse?

  • What kind of fish live in the pond near the landfill entrance?

  • How many people have died by falling into the landfill pit?

The photo shows the county landfill on Old Fort Road sometime around 1955. The landfill was established by the City of Klamath Falls in 1935, and turned over to county government in 1978.
