Moving Engine 2579 from Veterans Park

Klamath County Museum’s Photo of the Week for April 21, 2019, shows a crew laying track in preparation for removing Southern Pacific Engine 2579 from Veterans Park in downtown Klamath Falls.

The steam locomotive had been retired by Southern Pacific in May 1957, and was donated to the City of Klamath Falls as a static display in September 1957. But by 1969, with the engine showing signs of decay, city officials decided to transfer the engine to an excursion train in Mount Shasta City, Calif.
