Klamath Heritage: Link River Auto Camp [VIDEO]

Who remembers what stood on the west bank of the Link River before the Favell Museum was constructed in Klamath Falls? The Klamath County Museum Photo of the Week for April 14, 2019, reveals the answer.

Auto camps like this one became popular with the advent of the automobile, which enabled ordinary Americans to travel far and wide across the country.

Local businessman Gene Favell purchased the Link River Auto Camp (which had been renamed as the Link River Cottages, or the Link River Motel) 50 years ago this month. The office building was razed. We’ve heard that some of the cottages were moved to Dorris, Calif.

The Favell Museum of Western Art and Indian Artifacts opened in 1972. Mr. Favell passed away in 2001. Today his museum is operated by a locally owned nonprofit corporation.
