Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Klamath County Sports Officials scholarship committee announces that it will again award scholarships to selected student‐athletes from local high schools. In 2017, the scholarship fund distributed over $2,000 to Klamath Basin high school seniors.

The fund, established in 2011, provides scholarships to graduating student‐athletes at the nine schools serviced by the Klamath County Sports Officials partnership – Lost River, Henley, Mazama, Klamath
Union, Hosanna, Triad, Chiloquin, Bonanza and Lakeview. Winners are selected based on academic performance and at least one letter of recommendation from a varsity coach. Applicants must have a
minimum GPA, and must have earned a letter in at least one varsity sport.

The scholarships are funded by donations from members of six local officiating associations representing various sports. Members of these groups officiate local youth and high school athletic contests in their
respective sports, and are compensated for those services. Their contributions to the scholarship fund are either deducted from their compensation or contributed to the fund directly.

Joel Woodley, chair of the committee, said, “Our members have really stepped up to the plate this year. A couple of the local associations set up some fun challenges to increase contributions, and this year we will be awarding more scholarship dollars than we ever have.”

Student‐athletes who would like more information or an application should contact the counseling staff at their high school. The deadline for application is May 4, 2018, and winners will be announced during
senior award ceremonies at the winners’ schools.
