The Klamath County School District is hiring a new public relations specialist and grant writer. Marcia Schlottann will replace Samantha Tipler starting on July 2. Tipler’s last day with the KCSD is June 29.

Schlottmann brings a wealth of knowledge of the Klamath Basin with more than 20 years’ experience in journalism, including 18 years at the Herald and News as a reporter and editor. She has also taught journalism at Oregon Tech and wrote grants for an environmental consulting firm. Most recently, Schlottmann works as a paraprofessional at Stearns Elementary.

“Working in the county schools the last three years has shown me the value not just of education, but of people – teachers and staff – who inspire hundreds of youth every day, instilling confidence and helping them dream,” Schlottmann said. “The Klamath County School District is forward thinking, and its programs and community partnerships provide opportunities for students to grow and succeed, preparing them for higher educational paths after high school as well as the workforce. I am excited to share those stories and be a part of that team.”

Samantha Tipler is moving to the Portland area in July. She has worked for the KCSD since January 2016. She previously spent almost 10 years in journalism, including nearly six years at the Herald and News. As public relations specialist she has expanded the district’s presence on social media and communicated with local media in newspapers, radio, television and online news. As a grant writer she worked with teams of teachers and staff to apply for funds for a number of projects, including playgrounds, job training programs and attendance programs.

“I love spending my days sharing the wonderful things our students and staff do,” Tipler said. “From touting STEM programs, to encouraging student health, to celebrating every graduate, working at the Klamath County School District has been a job that inspires me every day.”

Editors Note:
Samantha Tipler has been a regular contributor to Klamath Falls News both with news and updates from the Klamath County School District as well as a regular contributor in our segment, Basin Adventures. I have personally known Samantha for many years and she is a great friend and colleague.  Samantha will be missed when she leaves the Basin, but I wish her all the best in her future up north in the Portland area.
