KCC to Host Phase II Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

KLAMATH FALLS — Klamath Community College invites you to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of KCC’s Phase II, a $15.7 million project funded through grants and donations.
Students, their families, and members of the public are welcome.
The event is Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 4 p.m. on the lawn south of Founders Hall. Sky Lakes Medical Center CEO Paul Stewart will be the event’s keynote speaker. Stewart was named the Oregon Business & Industries Statesman of the Year in 2017.
“We are excited for this opportunity to welcome the public to campus and to share the college’s growth with the community,” said KCC President Dr. Roberto Gutierrez. “We are offering more services now than ever before.”
During the Phase II project, two new buildings were constructed: the Work Skills Technology Center and Founders Hall. Much of the project’s funding was provided by a $3 million Economic Development Administration grant. Nearly $850,000 earmarked specifically for the Work Skills Technology Center was raised by donation through “Completing the Transformation,” a campaign co-chaired by former Klamath County Commissioner Jim Bellet and Steven Harper.
The Work Skills center is a hub for workforce development and features spaces for several programs, such as computer science and engineering, that prepare graduates for jobs in high-paying, high-demand fields. Students receiving GED and English as a second language services are also located in the center.
Founders Hall was named in recognition of the college’s inaugural seven-person board of directors – Jim Bellet, Gerald Hamilton, Juanita Fallon, Paul Freeman, Loren Lawrie, Don McCasland and Pete Nevin – and the countless individuals, such as educational innovator Bill Brown, who worked tirelessly to establish KCC.
The 22,000-square-foot building is a one-stop shop for student services such as financial aid, registration, TRiO, Veterans Services, and KCC’s Learning Resource Center.
The ribbon cutting will be followed with optional tours to see KCC’s growth and the new services being providing to the community in an effort to bolster our local workforce and to prepare graduates for jobs in high-paying, high-demand fields. Refreshments and hors ‘d'oeuvres will also be served after the ceremony.
