KCC Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting

KLAMATH FALLS – Klamath Community College is proud to announce the college has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

The recognition was awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for KCC’s comprehensive annual financial reporting.

“Compiling the data and preparing the document for review is a lot of hard work so it felt really good to earn it,” said Allison Bryson, KCC vice president of student affairs and former chief financial officer for the college. “This award is a huge accomplishment for our college and staff.”

The GFOA is a federal entity that was founded in 1906 and represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. The association's more than 19,400 members are federal, state/provincial, and local finance officials involved in planning, financing, and implementing thousands of governmental operations in each of their jurisdictions, according to the GFOA website.

“The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” the award letter said.

Bryson explained that the report is an in-depth multi-department effort, with numerous checks and balances to ensure accuracy. The report details the college’s financial position, including the institution’s assets, financial aid audits and disbursements, and how KCC manages federal grants. Bryson said the $3 million Economic Development Administration grant awarded to KCC for construction of the Work Skills Technology Center construction was also reviewed in the audit.

“They audited that to make sure every dollar was spent in compliance of the grant,” she said. “I’m incredibly proud of the KCC administrative offices that work behind the scenes to maintain compliance. They are giving their best and making the right decisions year-round.”
