Corporal Daren Krag has filed to run in the 2020 election for Klamath County Sheriff, challenging incumbent, Chris Kaber.

“There are many areas that we can improve,” said Krag. “We have a strong group of individuals with great potential that will benefit from true leadership.”

Krag is currently the supervisor of the Marine Division within the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office and offers many ideas for the county in the upcoming years. One primary focus for Krag is to improve service in underserved areas of Klamath County and find ways to better serve locations that do not receive the attention they warrant. Krag also intends to seek out better processes and procedures to help make the Klamath County Sheriff's Office more efficient.

Corporal Krag has already been proactive by speaking with community leaders asking for input on how we can improve our relationships. Krag plans to emphasize the importance of open communication from all members of our community.

“We need not be so arrogant that we do not explore new ideas or suggestions from different perspectives,” said Krag.

“By increasing accountability, and raising expectations, our entire agency will be held to a higher standard,” continues Krag. “The Sheriff of Klamath County should be setting the example of honesty, integrity and accountability and the same should be expected of any person who has the privilege of serving our great community.”

Background
Corporal Krag has served the community since 2005 when he began his career with the Klamath County Sheriff's Office as a Corrections Deputy. After serving as a corrections deputy, he was accepted into the patrol division where he continues to serve Klamath County.

As manager of the Marine Division, Krag oversees a fleet of eight boats used in patrol of Klamath County’s 96,000 acres of waterways. In May, Krag was honored by the Oregon State Marine Board when he was recognized as the Western States Boating Administrators Associations (WSBAA) Officer of the Year. As a result of this award, Krag is now considered for national Officer of the Year which will be announced in October by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.

“I was awarded OSMB officer of the year in 2018 (3rd time) nominated for western states officer of the year by OSMB which we won,” said Krag. “I will be traveling to Anchorage on the 29th of this month to the NASBLA conference where I am one of three finalists for the National Officer of the Year award.”

“I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve Klamath County and I am committed to continuing established relationships as well as building new ones,” concluded Krag.
