Four Owls Pick Up Cascade Conference Players of the Week Honors

La Grande, Ore. –  For the second week in a row four separate Oregon Tech student athletes have been named Cascade Conference Players of the Week the Conference office announced today. Receiving recognition for their work last week are Janelle Ferlan from the OIT Golf Team, along with three track and field athletes, Travis ThomasHunter Drops and Susie Garza.

Ferlan, a senior from Molalla, Ore., was named the CCC Red Lion Women's Golfer of the Week after she shot an all-time tournament low of 149 leading the Lady Owls to their 5th straight tournament win this past weekend at the Oregon Tech Spring Invite at Eagle Point Golf Club in Eagle Point, Oregon.

Thomas, a senior from Inglewood, Calif., was named the CCC Red Lion Men's Track Athlete of the Week after he hit an NAIA "A" qualifier while setting the school record in the 200M with a time of 21.48 seconds at the Chico State Wildcat Invite at Chico State University Saturday. He is now #3 on the National List for the 200 meter. Thomas also anchored the OIT 4X4 team into a 2nd place finish.

Drops, a freshman from Coos Bay, Oregon, was named the CCC Field Athlete of the Week after he hit an NAIA "A" qualifier in the Javelin as he won the event with a throw of 57.44 meters. He also hit an NAIA "B" mark in the pole vault when he jumped 13.59 meters at the Chico State Wildcat Invite at Chico State University Saturday. Drops is currently ranked at No.1 on the National list in both events. 

Garza, a junior from Baldwin Park, Calif., was named the CCC Red Lion Women's Track Athlete of the week as she finished second in the 800 meter in a time of 2:19.38. She also finished fourth in the 1,500 in a time of 4:43.12 at the Chico State Wildcat Invite at Chico State University Saturday Garza is currently ranked No. 1 on the National list in the 800 M and No. 2 on the National list in the 1,500 M.
