Bonfires, Royalty, and Football Games

County high schools gearing up for homecoming events

Bonfires, royalty, football games and dances. Homecoming – a high school tradition when alumni return to their alma maters – is upon us.

This week, Henley and Mazama high schools are gearing up for their Friday night homecoming events with week-long spirit celebrations. Both schools have traditional bonfires scheduled for tonight (Oct. 3) – Henley will light the fire at 8:30 p.m.; Mazama at 6:30 p.m.

Homecoming football games Friday at both schools will feature half-time parades and crowning of homecoming court kings and queens. Mazama plays a non-league game against Marist Catholic; Henley plays Phoenix. Both games start at 7 p.m.

Friday night football games, half-time parades, the crowning of kings and queens and a formal homecoming dance wrap up the week.

Other Klamath County School District high schools will celebrate homecomings in the next couple of weeks. As the dates draw nearer, check on individual school’s websites for more details on spirit week and homecoming events.

  • Chiloquin Junior/Senior High School: Homecoming celebrations will be the week of Oct. 8-12, with a Friday night football game against Triad. Game starts at 5 p.m. at Mazama High School.

  • Lost River Junior/Senior High School: The school’s Friday, Oct. 19 homecoming celebration coincides with the community’s Potato Festival and the last home football game of the season for the Raiders. The game against Rogue River High School starts at 7 p.m.

  • Bonanza Junior/Senior High School: Bonanza Junior/Senior High School: Bonanza will be holding their bonfire on Thursday, Oct. 18 following its homecoming football game vs. Triad starting at 7 p.m. The school also will be celebrating its seniors at 6:30 p.m.

  • Gilchrist Junior/Senior High School: Gilchrist will host a Fall Festival Oct. 12, featuring a noon football game against Jewell High School. Its homecoming celebration for returning alumni is traditionally held during basketball season.
