Bonanza, Henley and Lost River Athletes Place in SOHSET Meet

Medford, Ore. - Seven athletes representing Bonanza, Henley and Lost River High Schools all earned top three placings in the first Southern Oregon High School Equestrian Team (SOHSET) meet of the year at the Jackson County Expo in Medford, OR.
Garret Fox, Shelby Gibbs, Abby Orella and Lillian George combined to win the freestyle fours drill competition. Bonanza HS to include Katie Schroeder also won the Canadian flags competition with a time of 37.13. Fox, Gibbs and Orella rode to earn a second place finish in team penning. Gibbs and Schroeder posted a 27.506 to win the two-man birangle contest; while Fox and Orella took third with a 28.291. Orella won the breakaway roping competition with a time of 7.17. Fox topped the Keyhole competition with a 7.718, and placed second in the Figure 8 contest with a 11.501. Fox marked a 9.534 to handily win the individual flags event.

Representing Henley, Kendall Griffith won the steer daubing contest with a combined time of 5.572; while Lillian George placed third in the hunt seat over fences contest.
For the first time in school history, Lost River High School was represented at the meet. Freshman athlete Breanna Blodgett rode to a second place finish in the working rancher performance class.
Finally, Bonanza and Henley combined for a second place finish in the in hand obstacle relay event.
SOHSET athletes compete three times per year. Athletes’ cumulative times and scores earn them slots at the state competition. Nearly 100 athletes representing 11 schools ride in the competition. The next meet is slated for march 16-18 at the Jackson County Expo.
