Airport Reminds Drone Owners of Operating Rules

In light of a report that a small drone was operating at the north end of the airport in the approach path of landing aircraft, the Airport would like to remind the public of the rules that have been established by the FAA to ensure the safe operations of drones around the airport.

  • Drones (or unmanned aircraft) that weigh between .55lbs and 55lbs must be registered with the FAA (https://faadronezone.faa.gov/#/);
  • Fly for hobby or recreation ONLY;
  • Fly within visual line-of-sight;
  • Never fly near other aircraft;
  • Notify the air traffic control tower prior to flying within 5 miles of an airport (the Air Traffic Manager can be reached at 541-880-2470);
  • Never fly near emergency response efforts.

The Crater Lake – Klamath Regional Airport appreciates your help in keeping the skies safe for aircraft in the surrounding airspace.
