Klamath Falls News has received a letter written to the citizens of Klamath County by Eve Costello, Klamath County District Attorney. In her letter, DA Costello lists modifications to the public hours at the DA’s office, steps the DA’s office is doing to ensure public safety, and ensuring prosecution of criminal cases continue.

Her letter is below.

Dear Klamath County Citizens,

The Klamath District Attorneys’ office will be implementing schedule modifications consistent with the modifications recommended by the Klamath County Commissioners and the Oregon Supreme Court. As of Thursday, March 19, 2020, the Klamath County District Attorneys physical office will be closed to the public except for during the hours of 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. We will remain available by telephone (541)883-5147 and will be able to make appointments with citizens as needed to prepare for trial or other necessary court proceedings. Please call our number before coming in as much of our business can be handled by telephone.

Our Deputy District Attorneys and staff will continue to work to ensure public safety and efficient processing of criminal cases. We just want to limit exposure for our team and our fellow citizens. Most court proceedings that do not involve in custody matters have been continued. Arraignments occur at 1:30 each day, thus our reason for currently remaining open from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. If you have questions about a particular criminal matter, you can call the court at (541)883-5503, or call your attorney, or call our office.

Please take the cautions for social distancing and staying home. Read a great book. Do that project you’ve always been putting off. Spend time with family. The Public Health Authorities are working to lower spread of the infection and thus, the number of cases our hospitals and medical personnel have to address. This will increase the odds that those infected will receive all necessary medical treatment.

In service,

Eve Costello
Klamath County District Attorney
