7-Hour standoff ends with arrest by KCSO Special Response Team

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a 7-hour standoff began following an assault and stabbing of a man in the suburbs of Klamath Falls. The victim, not identified and condition unknown, had been taken to Sky Lakes Medical Center for treatment.
During an investigation, deputies with the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office was led to believe that location of the assault was at a residence on Boyd Court in Klamath Falls. Upon arrival deputies determined that suspect Thomas Anderson, 53, was inside and was in possession of multiple firearms inside the home, including handguns.
As deputies attempted to contact Anderson, surrounding homes were evacuated.
A nearly 7-hour standoff ensured while several attempts were made to take Anderson into custody. An arrest and search warrant were obtained by the KCSO and the Special Response Team moved an armored vehicle into position to apprehend Anderson.
The Special Response Team used chemical agents to eventually cause Anderson to surrender.
The KCSO used an arsenal of intelligence gathering information to avoid an armed confrontation; including two drones, and a tactical robot provided by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
“The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank supporting agencies in the incident,” said Klamath County Sheriff Chris Kaber. “The Klamath Falls Police Department, Basin Interagency Narcotics Team, Community Corrections, Klamath County Fire District 1, Jackson County Sherriff’s Office, Merrill Police Department, and members of the US Marshals Service.”
“The KCSO wishes to thank the neighborhood who shown extreme patience during the necessary time needed to make a safe arrest,” added Sheriff Kaber.
KCSO investigations continue on the incident. At this time, Anderson is being held in the Klamath County Jail under charges of a Parole Violation. No bail has been set.
