The second-annual South County Superstars raised $1,600 for Lost River and Bonanza high schools’ booster clubs. This event pits the two schools against one another in friendly competition to benefit everyone.

This year Lost River took home the gold in the Olympics-themed contest. Last year at the inaugural event, Bonanza won. About 70 students from Lost River competed, about 40 from Bonanza, and about 300 people attended.

“It’s unlike any competition between both schools,” said Lost River Principal Jamie Ongman. “It’s a fun event that is based on friendly competition and it incorporates decorations, introductions, organization, attendance and sportsmanship as scoreable areas that help schools win. The students really get into it because it's so unique and individuals that are not necessarily ‘competitive’ can still take part because they create decorations, create dances for introductions.”

Ongman credited ASP student officers from both schools with making the event happen. This year’s theme was the Olympics. Lost River students created the Parthenon in the school gym and Bonanza students organized the Opening Ceremony.

While students did not compete in actual Olympic games, they did compete in a range of activities that included: Toilet paper relay, crunch relay, scooter board relay, tug-o-war, dizzy Izzy (spin on a bat and run), pyramid relay, three-legged basketball shoot and an obstacle course.

The South County Superstars would like to thank the volunteer judges: Jennifer McKoen and Dan Duncan from Lost River and Gary Young and Tom Metcalf from Bonanza.
